Project summary

NATALIE addresses the risks posed by climate change and its impacts and proposes to advance the concepts of "ecosystem-based adaptation" in Europe combined with climate resilient development pathways, as the means for impact driven Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), to accelerate and mainstreaming the adoption of NBS for resilience to climate change, which is also the cornerstone identified in the recent IPCC AR6 WGII Report.

NATALIE will deliver practical innovations through co-creation of solutions, stakeholder engagement, modelling, testing, monitoring, and validation mechanisms. These innovations will provide actionable knowledge for adaptation and impact-driven NBS. To achieve its goals, NATALIE will develop a transformative NBS booster pack comprising 25 solutions. These solutions address key levers for transformative change, including socially acceptable and financially innovative solutions, stakeholder engagement, systemic solutions at the regional level, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, pre-feasibility studies, and evidence-based outcomes.

The main objective is to accelerate and foster the mainstreaming of NBS through ecosystem-based adaptation for regional resilience. The booster Innovation Package encompasses innovative technical, modelling, and IT solutions, governance and policy recommendations at both EU and regional levels, as well as financing and public engagement transformative solutions.

18 NBS will be demonstrating in 8 demonstration site located in 5 different bio-geographical regions of Europe. Their replication will be a studied in 4 follower site located in the same bio-geographical regions.
