16-18 June 2025. Rimini, Italy
The European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA) is the premier forum for exchanging practical solutions, sharing knowledge, and fostering collaboration on climate adaptation across Europe.
At ECCA2025 in Rimini, conferences and discussions on climate resilience took centre stage The NBS4EU Cluster brought together voices from across Europe to show how Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are shaping more resilient futures, from coastlines to deltas, mountains to Mediterranean cities.

The NATALIE sister projects (ARCADIA, CARDIMED, DesirMED, Land4Climate, Mount Resilience and NBRACER) are funded under the same Horizon Europe Call Topic: “Testing and demonstrating transformative solutions on climate resilience, mainstreaming nature-based solutions in systemic transformation.”
To strengthen collaboration and foster synergies among these projects, the NBS4EU Cluster was established in spring 2024. Acting as a collaborative platform, NBS4EU facilitates the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices between the sister projects to amplify the impact of NBS for climate adaptation across Europe.
NATALIE in special sessions
In the high-level session “Nature-Based Solutions in Action: Scaling Resilience Pathways to Face Climate Extremes,” the Cluster’s partners highlighted concrete examples of how NBS are being implemented, financed, and embedded into policy frameworks. These shared experiences underline a common ambition: to make nature a central ally in the fight against climate risks.
The NATALIE project was present not only as part of the Cluster but also within the MIP4Adapt working group on financing climate adaptation. In the dedicated session “Scaling Innovative Adaptation Finance Solutions”, NATALIE collaborated with other EU-funded initiatives to explore pathways for unlocking investment, mobilising local action, and supporting the scaling up of innovative solutions.
Together, these discussions highlighted a crucial message:
When we finance nature, we invest in resilience. And when we act together, Nature-Based Solutions go further.
During the ECCA2025 session, the NATALIE project highlighted concrete examples from its Case Study in Maspalomas (Spain) (CS#4). The presentation focused on key lessons learned for successful NBS implementation, emphasizing the importance of:
- Early and proactive stakeholder engagement to ensure alignment and support;
- The use of transformation labs to foster a shared, long-term vision among local actors;
- The need to adapt NBS to local conditions, particularly in regions facing challenges like low rainfall
- Combining robust technical evidence with strong participatory approaches to strengthen impact and legitimacy.
Why does this matter for NATALIE?
NATALIE’s participation in ECCA2025 strengthens its connections within the European adaptation ecosystem and reinforces its role in driving forward tangible, scalable actions for climate resilience through NBS. It highlights the project’s contribution to support the Mission on Climate Adaptation objective and efforts to make adaptation finance more accessible and impactful.
